Biography
Veronica Scarpellino was born in Asbury Park, NJ in 1977. She attended Monmouth Universitys Department of Art and Design on an academic scholarship, graduating Magna cum Laude in 1999 with a concentration in sculpture. In 1998, she was offered a full fellowship to the respected artist colony Vermont Studio Center (VSC) in Johnson Vermont. While there, she participated in the statewide exhibition The Hay Project, in the Red Mill Gallery at VSC.
Scarpellino relocated to Boulder Colorado in 1999, spending three years professionally building architectural scale models, where she refined the skills and techniques she currently uses in her art work. She also actively participated in the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA). Scarpellino was invited two years running by the Museum to create sculptural installations for their widely acclaimed Exotica Erotica Ball.
In 2002, Veronica Scarpellino moved again to Philadelphia, where she is currently living and working in her in-home studio. Philadelphia offers an endless supply of abandoned factories and warehouses that supplement materials for her sculpture.
Currently, Scarpellino is working with a team of international artists, engineers and scientists on a project called the Geostationary Banana Over Texas. She is using her writing and organizational skills gleaned from years of supporting other fine artists in the pursuit of success to assist this international collaborative in the marketing of their project.
Veronica Scarpellinos work has been exhibited in New York City at TIXE, a Chashama Art Space, in Colorado at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, in Atlanta at the Eyedrum nonprofit art space, and in Philadelphia through Projekt30. She recently received an award from the Andy Warhol Foundation through her work with Eyedrum.
